Outdoor Office

Outdoor Office

It’s Day 345 of the Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Project, and it’s been such a joy to spend it working on and in my outdoor office. As I posted a few days ago, while my hubby was out of town last week, I heaved all of the outdoor furniture back into place after he kindly power washed it but left it beneath the deck. Though I got all of the resin wicker pieces out, I couldn’t find where he put the dining chairs that do desk duty when I work alfresco. Nor could I hoist the nine foot sunbrella up alone. Today, I coaxed him to help me get the chairs out and he in turn enlisted my middle stepson, who is officially out on college break, to assist him with the umbrella. The glass table top received a thorough wipe down and all of the chairs got sprayed and scrubbed with bleach water. None of above is pictured here, but now from my shady seat on the freshly spring cleaned dining/desk area, I’m afforded a gorgeous vantage point to view the other side of the deck which serves as my morning lougning/reading outdoor office.

img_0850.jpg
Outdoor Office. White resin wicker from Menards. Many people want brown, but I persisted til I got what I wanted for Mother’s Day nearly a decade ago. The new Simply Shabby Chic floral pillows from Target pair with old white crochet ones & infuse blue & purple into the mix. That called for purple flowers instead of my usual pink. The birdbath was filthy when I found it at Kroger, so I offered $5 for it. Walmart rug- $20 All other accessories bought over years- TJ Maxx.

As a Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose entrepreneur who is an author, life coach and speaker, I also did post tasks from the Seasons of Her Soul Coffee & Connect Book Signing, touched base with coaching clients, scheduled appointments, worked on a call for proposal and marketed an upcoming Pink Collar Savvy & Chic/High Heeled Success workshop on “Overcoming the Fear Factor”. In addition to all of that, I took care of some personal business (with a little housework thrown in) as well. It’s only Monday, but the week is off to such a busy start, it would be easy to lose any of the relaxation I enjoyed over the weekend. But sitting with my skin kissed by the sun, the scent of honeysuckle wafting by, a scrumptious fruit smoothie in my hand, birdsong in my ears, and beauty everywhere my eyes land, I’m able to hold on to it in my outdoor office.

How can you be Pink Collar Savvy & Chic about making an outdoor office space? With a laptop, it’s easy to complete many work related tasks. Even if that’s not doable, can you  you make the grocery list or pay the bills there on the weekend?

Be savvy & chic,

~Pink Collar Coach

Best Seasons of Her Soul Book Signing

Best Seasons of Her Soul Book Signing

It’s Day 343 of the Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Project and I’m pleased to report that I had the Best Seasons of Her Soul Book Signing! Before it was officially open, a local author bought a book during set up and exclaimed, Gotta support local authors! Then a woman from my Zumba class came in – even though she hadn’t heard my announcement about the signing in yesterday’s announcement (She admits she may have been chatting…). There to meet a friend for coffee, she was delighted to learn about the book because she’s a reader. These two encounters set the tone for a good day! After that, a steady stream of fans, friends, and former co-workers came through – some carrying their paperback copies, others to purchase them and/or a CD. Coaching clients, new readers, Zumba peeps, and even someone who asked me to be a speaker at an upcoming event stopped by. I gifted Seasons of Her Soul Select, a music CD I recorded to complement the book to all who had taken the time to post reviews on Amazon. In that same generous spirit, many of the attendees posted pics and shared their time on social media. And I signed many books, thank you notes for ebook readers, and was on the receiving end of so much encouragement, support, a large chai tea latte, and love that it made for the best Seasons of Her Soul Book Signing!

Kelly and I were Leadership Coaches at the same agency. Though we no longer work together, her beautiful spirit is still knit together with mine .                                                                                  She brought her sister with her & she has the same sweet heart.

Me, Pink Collar Coach, right before Coffee & Connect officially began. Table is styled with pink and white and my Swan bookends. I’m in a Calvin Klein pink sheath dress, the same shade as the book cover, a ruffled sleeve cardi, sling backs & a floral bag, which did double duty as a tote.

A group of wonderful women who read the book, loved it and came out to show their support. Two brought their children, who are all readers. At least one is inspired to write after today!

These two have become dear friends. Zumba brought us together. So much more binds us now. We chatted for almost two hours after the event ended.                                                                     Marina read on Kindle but wanted a paperback signed, which she got today.                                     Angelin is anxious to get started reading. I’m singing for her non-profit – Helping Angels of Peru – event soon, and she’s already let me know how much she’s enjoying the CD she purchased.

As a Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose author, this day is one I’ll cherish always. I wrote Seasons of Her Soul to be a blessing to women and it’s doing just that. So many ladies took the time to share how I’ve encouraged or inspired them, not only with the book, but with my positivity. I’m deeply humbled by this and always try to give God the glory – another reason the book exists…Still, one of the most profound conversations I had was with a gentleman who bought a book as I packed up. He shared how his daughter has a restraining order on an ex-boyfriend and that a niece was murdered by one. WOW. He teared up as I signed a message of hope and blessings in the book he will give his daughter today – on her birthday. Yes, it was written for women, but it was written especially for this one – who is dealing with domestic violence. If that doesn’t make this the best Seasons of Her Soul Book Signing – I don’t know what would.

Thank you to all of you who have been Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose and followed my first book signing journey. You are the best readers!

Be savvy & chic,

~Pink Collar Coach

Seasons of Her Soul Coffee & Connect Book Signing Preparation Celebration!

Seasons of Her Soul Coffee & Connect Book Signing Preparation Celebration!

It’s Day 342 of the Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Project and I’m rewarding myself with a Seasons of Her Soul Coffee & Connect Book Signing Preparation Celebration! (Details here – Seasons of Her Soul Book Signing – Coffee Beans & Brew – Final). It’s fourteen hours until the event- and other than this post, packing the car, ironing my dress and doing my nails, I’m done for the night! Woot! Woot! It may sound like there’s still a lot to do, but for the first time in like ever, I’m not going to be up until the wee hours getting ready. But I could have. Wednesday, when I was in full-on decorating outdoor spaces mode, I almost put off shopping for/styling the event until today but am now thanking the Lord I came to my senses and spent most of yesterday and today on it. After teaching Zumba this morning, I attempted to wrestle the Square Chip Card Reader Beast to the ground, however, sage advice from someone who owns one was to avoid the anxiety this time around. The bad news is that means cash and checks only tomorrow. The good news is, with that off my plate, I put the time to much better use and nailed down final details. When I made the final purchase – new eyeliner and mascara at Kroger – I couldn’t resist treating myself to not just my regular green tea latte (non-fat of course), but to a Matcha Green Creme (still non-fat but filled in the dome lid). YUM! The perfect way to celebrate my strategic Seasons of Her Soul Coffee & Connect Book Signing Preparation!

IMG_0839
Me, Pink Collar Coach, in business casual for running around on preparation errands.                      I’m loving the floral trend this spring – so me – & mixing & matching them. A sleeveless top for outdoor temps & a coral shrug for indoor air conditioning. The pants, slides & bag pick up the rose & burgundy in the top. And I’ve got to stop taking pics with glasses on top of my head! ; )                                                                                                                                        All Calvin Klein from TJ Maxx. My signing is at another coffee shop but I’m equal opportunity!

As a Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose debut novelist, you can probably tell I’m excited! The thought of meeting readers I’ve never met and seeing faces I haven’t for a long time makes me giddy. In fact, even though I’m a bit exhausted, I can imagine not being able to sleep…But I’ll definitely get more than if I’d procrastinated. Thankfully, I’m becoming a little more savvy and chic and practicing what I preach to my coaching clients. Because I am, as soon as the cars loaded, I can eat my sushi dinner, enjoy my latte for dessert, paint my nails and get back to reading my Francine Rivers’ novel. I’ve always wanted to be her when I grow up as a writer. Having my first Seasons of Her Soul Coffee & Connect Book Signing – and being able to celebrate being fully prepared – makes me feel like I just might get there.

Hope you’ll be Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose and join me or at least send up some blogosphere love!

Be savvy & chic ,

Styling for Seasons of Her Soul Book Signing

Styling for Seasons of Her Soul Book Signing

It’s Day 341 of the Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Project and I haven’t blogged in a few days because I’ve been styling for the Seasons of Her Soul Book Signing! After two days of decorating my outdoor spaces (that’s another post) and a life coaching session this morning, I hit it hard and made a decent dent in the preparations. Styling for a celebration, event, party or special occasion is one of my absolute favorite things to do and the book signing feels like all of the above rolled into one. Knowing the devil’s in the details, I’ve put a lot of thought and time into them. Considering the book’s publication process spanned two decades, I had some years to ponder the look and feel of the final product. The fantasy consisted of pink, a feminine font, and flowers – preferably roses. The reality, though pretty, is more realistic. After all, as my publisher pointed out, the novel is not just sunshine and rainbows…Hence the darker font colors and flowers only on  the back image. Still, I got soft pink and a model who looks like she stepped out of the vision I had of the heroine, Lee, in my mind. She’s even wearing the pink dress from a one of the most romantic scenes! I bore all of this, along with my agency, Pink Collar Savvy & Chic, in mind while styling for my first book signing.

Styling for the Seasons of Her Soul Book Signing. Shabby Chic ruffled table runner. Love how the Thanks card font mimics the novel’s! All Pink Starburst -Target. Other stationery Office Depot.

Some readers know I sing.  At age eight I performed my first solo at church. Eventually I received a partial music scholarship to attend college where our group traveled across the country to many church stages. Weddings, funerals, women’s events and speaking engagements are venues where I still sing today. My voice is not perfect by any stretch, especially because of asthma, but as long as the good Lord allows me to draw breath, I’ll raise it to point to Him. All that said, several years ago, in anticipation of publishing the book the way I envisioned it, I recorded a selection of songs that accompany the novel with a pink rose CD sleeve. Seasons of Her Soul Select (above) will play a part in Saturday’s event.

Coaching & Coffee – Small Businesses, Big Benefits

Coaching & Coffee – Small Businesses, Big Benefits

It’s Day 335 of the Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Project and my collaboration with a Pink Collar Savvy & Chic entrepreneur demonstrates how our ventures – coaching and coffee – are small businesses with big benefits. Lianne Nowak and her husband own our local coffee shop, Coffee Beans & Brew. I’ve been a regular customer from the time the doors opened in 2006, if I’m not mistaken. I could run across the parking lot and grab a cup when I worked next door in an entry level child care center position right after I became homeless. Back then, staff often sported “Star Quality, Less Bucks” shirts that proclaimed a truth customers still attest to. Now their cards read “Feels Like Home” and that statement is just as true. The shop is known for its comfy atmosphere as much as it is for the coffee. Over the years, CBB has remained a constant throughout my evolving career transitions.  When I’d worked my way up to Leadership Coach status, it was a great site to work on post and prep for sessions remotely. And being a director of a coaching program required a daily morning trip through the drive through for a huge Skinny Vanilla Latte. Today, I meet many of my coaching clients in this office away from home, located mere minutes the PCS&C headquarters. For Lianne, owning the shop and often serving as barista has afforded her the flexibility to be present for her son and to pursue her other interests – like Pure Romance and decorating gorgeous wedding cakes. Coaching and coffee have allowed both of us to build our best personal and professional lives. I’d say those are huge benefits from small businesses!

IMG_0828
Lianne and Me, Pink Collar Coach. Even when dressed down to serve as a barista, she’s naturally beautiful. I have on a mix of oldies – the shell sweater and black skirt, with a bright cardi I found on clearance at Macy’s a few years ago. The Calvin Klein pumps, though brand new and never worn, only cost $4 at Goodwill. Such. A. Score. Had been looking for bone for forever! Everything else Calvin Klein, too – TJ Maxx.

As a Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose life coach, author, and entrepreneur, I’m delighted to work with Lianne to host the first book signing for Seasons of Her Soul, my debut novel. She goes above and beyond to ensure Coffee Beans & Brew feels like home, including baking delectable pastries and the best chicken salad I’ve ever tasted. And because it feels like home, it’s an ideal gathering spot for the community, a Coffee & Connect Book signing, and coaching clients! The fact that I get to coach clients at a place that has served as a haven while I minimized my own barriers in order to maximize my best personal and professional life is not lost on me. Doing it over a great cup of coffee makes it even better. Another way the coffee and coaching small businesses go hand and hand and yield big benefits.

Coffee & Connect Book Signing

Coffee & Connect Book Signing

It’s Day 333 of the Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Project and I’m excited to have a Coffee & Connect Book Signing for my debut novel, Seasons of Her Soul, scheduled at my local coffee shop. Earlier this week I sent out a request for feedback on the flyer I’d designed and had tweaked by my publisher. Thanks to everyone who weighed in! I incorporated the suggestions as best as I could…One discerning reader pointed out that the event was scheduled for Memorial Day weekend! Yikes! Fearing that would negatively impact attendance, but still wanting to fit this in before our school district – a source of steady traffic – breaks for summer, we decided to move ahead in just ten days! I hope you’ll click the link below to view the new and improved flier with the updated date and time, which has been extended to accommodate my Saturday morning Zumba friends. If you’re in the area, I’d love for you to stop by. And even if you’re not, I still hope you’ll check the flier out and be inspired to achieve a goal – like me hosting a Coffee & Connect Book Signing.

seasons-of-her-soul-book-signing-coffee-beans-brew-final

As a Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose author, I’m beyond excited to host my first ever  event that is focused solely on Seasons of Her Soul and readers. It’s wonderful to receive calls, emails and texts telling me you enjoyed the book. And when such positive feedback is in addition to a review left on Amazon or Goodreads, it’s icing on the cake. Even so, I imagine neither will compare to meeting you face to face. The fact that some of the best coffee around will facilitate the process makes it a even better. With the electronic flier out on the web and the paper copy posted on the bulletin board and windows of the coffee shop, I’m ready for coffee, connecting, and signing the books of readers? Hello! Doesn’t get much better than that!

Will you be Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose and join us?
