It’s Day 281 of the Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Project, and I’m trying out LipSense – a great product that won’t come off during your workout, on your coffee cup or your man! I first heard about this product in January when one of the participant’s at our High Heeled Success/Pink Collar Savvy & Chic workshops shared it with me. The workshop, “Kick Up Your Networking Skills for Maximum Success”, provided the opportunity to create and share an elevator speech. Dana Enrico brought the room down with “LipSense wouldn’t come off on your man!” Not only won’t my husband kiss me on during the day for fear of a lipstick stain, neither will my son let me steal even a peck on the cheek! And the fact that it won’t come off on your coffee mug intrigued me because you can always spot my cup with its telltale lipstick smudge – a bit embarrassing when I’m in a professional setting. If these weren’t enough cause for me to be interested, I’ve been on a quest for makeup that will stay put while I teach Zumba. So when Dana, who connected me with Altrusa to present on my Seasons of Her Soul publication journey, gifted me with a pretty pink color last night after I spoke, I was thrilled. Today I’m excited to learn if LipSense won’t come off during my workout!
In order to determine which color I wanted, Dana painted my hand with four options. (BTW – This morning, I can honestly vouch for them being waterproof. Even after numerous hand washings, the colors were still vibrant enough for me to take above picture…). Initially I planned to play it safe and choose a neutral pink with a hint of purple that’s close to the Maybelline “Warm Me Up” color I wear daily. Dana gently nudged me to go for something that really represents Pink Collar Savvy & Chic style, so I got out of my comfort zone and went with a true pink hue. I appreciate her subtle persuasion and am tickled pink with the result – literally!
As a Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose life coach and lifestyle blogger who coaches women to maximize their beauty and best life, it feels great to share a new beauty product I feel positive about. LipSense is dual purpose – you can look good and feel good wearing it. Seldom do I blog before 5pm, but I’m that impressed thus far. That’s saying something considering I’m slow to try new things. If Dana hadn’t gifted it to me, I probably wouldn’t have taken the risk. I’m so glad she did! Great as it feels to share, it’s even better that I get to promote a Savvy & Chic Swan and her product. Based on the fact that I’m holding a coffee mug with no stain on it, I’m really looking forward to trying Lip Sense out on my man – and during my workout!

It’s Day 251 of the Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Project, and since I had to bite the bullet and buy new makeup this weekend, I thought it would be fun to do a round up of what’s in my beauty bag. Truthfully, I’m pretty frugal with purchasing makeup, partly because I try to be a good steward of my resources, and partly because it’s just plain old expensive! That being the case, I usually use every eyeliner and mascara until they’re dry and eke each and every drop out of foundation, lipstick, and powder. But at a certain point, a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do! Besides, being down to the bare minimum, new makeup – waterproof where I could get it – was an investment for teaching Zumba. You’ve heard of the ugly cry, right? Well, the ugly sweat applies to me! Raccoon eyes that sting and turn red from irritation after my makeup runs into them is not a pretty sight! So, budget conscious as I am, I put my Kroger Plus grocery card to use and saved a bundle on my fave: Maybelline beauty supplies. Now my beauty bag is fully stocked with the following:
What’s In My Beauty Bag (Left to right, then middle)
Master Precise Skinny Gel Pencil/Crayon Gel in Defining Black – Goes on easily and is perfect for a subtle cat eye. I also use it to softly fill in my brows. It’s waterproof!
Pumped Up! Colossal Volum’ Express Hydrofudge Waterproof in Very Black – As I age, my lashes are not as thick. This plumps them up and lengthens with no clumping.
Color Tattoo Eye Chrome in Gilded Rose – This eyeshadow is a new one for me and it delivers on its promise to stay on all day. The pink is pretty & there are lots of other color options.
Fit Me! Foundation – #310/Sun Beige – As a fairer skinned woman of color, until I found this, matching my skin tone was impossible! It also has an SPF of 18. Once you find your fit, you just stick with it and go up or down a shade for summer or winter if needed.
Fit Me! Pressed Powder – #310/Sun Beige – Yep! The powder #s match the foundation, thus eliminating guesswork. It’s also matte + poreless.
Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter in Gilded Rose Gold – If you’re like me and don’t enjoy using makeup brushes, this can be applied to the cheeks and bridge of nose with your fingers. And I love that the tones complement the above eye color.
Color Sensational Lipstick in Warm Me Up – Perfect for a natural day look with just a hint ofrose pink. So many shades to chose from!
O.P.I. Nail Lacquer in Otherwise Engaged – Though this wasn’t a new purchase, I always keep the color I’m wearing on hand for a quick touch up. Your makeup can be flawless but chipped nails destroy your polished look – Pun intended! ; )
Indestructible Nail File (pink of course) – Jagged nails detract from your sharp appearance – Again, I couldn’t help myself! ; )
Calvin Klein Makeup Bag – I’ve had this for about five years. It’s showing wear and tear, so I hope it will hold up until I find one I love as much to replace it. Corralling all of your beauty items in one spot means you always have everything you need to put your best face forward!
As a Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Image Coach, I hope you’ve enjoyed this round up of what’s in my beauty bag.

Day 154 of the Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Project started early with a meeting to explore an idea I’ve toyed with on and off for a while. As a girly girl who loves pink and makeup, I’ve always been drawn to Mary Kay Cosmetics. That being the case, when I met a Mary Kay Sales Director at my Evolve networking event, I voiced my interest in learning more about how Mary Kay might work for my image coaching and we scheduled to meet this morning. I decided to be purposeful in pink to honor one of America’s greatest entrepreneurs and I’ve been pondering whether to offer Mary Kay Cosmetics as a Pink Collar Savvy & Chic product ever since.
In graduate school, I researched Mary Kay Ash as part of my capstone project. My final paper was entitled: “Pink Collar Strategy to Shatter the Glass Ceiling: Entrepreneurialism as a Sledgehammer”. Mary Kay left the male dominated corporate world and founded the company as a way to help other women be successful. Its principles are God first, family second and career third. This so aligns with my values and the image coaching facet of my business. And the freedom and flexibility the company offers fit into my dream “portfolio career” where I’m doing all the things I love on my terms vs. working for others. While all of this is good for me, I believe it could be great for the women I coach, personally and professionally.
Thus far, when I’ve done image coaching sessions, I’ve taken clients to Sephora (and Target in a pinch because the request was added on to go with an out of town client’s new wardrobe!). It seems to make sense that I’d carry products so the image coaching sessions can take place in my home/office, the client’s home, or at the Mary Kay Studio here in town (I didn’t know that existed until today!). That would provide more opportunity for proper makeup application so the look can be replicated at home. And I’m hopeful that doing the demonstrations and providing the products in a more relaxed setting will put clients more at ease.
Really, I’m trying to be purposeful about what I now call, “The Swan Experience”. For those who request a stand alone cosmetics makeover or one to complement the wardrobe makeover, the transformation would simply include cosmetics I carry rather than clients purchasing products from a retailer and paying the marked up prices to cover their overhead expenses. In addition, I’d be able to offer complimentary products and services. It seems like a win win! And, surprisingly, my hubby volunteered that he’s on board should I decide to move forward.
As a Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Chick who is building her business to serve you, I’d love your input. I’m not asking if you think I should “sell” Mary Kay. My question is more if if you were interested in an image coaching session, would you enjoy having the products on hand to try in a comfortable, private setting? I’m trying to be purposeful and provide your preferences, so I appreciate you helping me ponder whether to offer Mary Kay Cosmetics as a Pink Collar Savvy & Chic product. Thank you!
P.S. If you weigh in and I move forward, there may be some giveaways!
