Pink Collar Coach’s Positivity Post – July 23, 2018

Thanks so much for all of the prayers and well wishes for my performance at yesterday’s Helping Angels of Peru Inaugural Fundraiser. I’d been sick for a week but was able to sing and hopefully inspire giving. It turned out to be a phenomenal event!

Fundraiser Fashion

It’s Day 399 of the Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Project and I thought it would be fun to post about yesterday’s Fundraiser Fashion. Helping Angels of Peru, a non-profit organization that supports the poverty-stricken children of Cajamarca, Peru, held its inaugural fundraiser Sunday afternoon. My dear friend and Swan Sister, Angelin Kiplinger is the organization’s founder, and I had the pleasure of being seated at the table with her son, Juan. Of course, because we’re both moms who wear that particular heart on our sleeves, I knew of him but hadn’t met him in person. I found him to be as charming as he is handsome and enjoyed watching him strut his stuff in Peruvian garb during the fashion show. Then, later in the afternoon, I was delighted to become reacquainted with Claudia, a stunning Mary Kay rep who reminds me of the African singer, Sade, and my mother who favors the performer. I first met Claudia when she mistook me for being Hispanic at a Zumba for the Cure event last year. She approached me speaking rapid fire Spanish but quickly realized I only spoke halting Spanglish! Nevertheless, we hit it off but failed to exchange contact info. I was so glad to see her and loved her gorgeous fundraiser fashion!

Me, Pink Collar Coach, with Claudia. Love her floral off the shoulder maxi dress with bell sleeves! I’m in Calvin Klein –– of course. A floral wrap style dress – $30– cinched with a goal clasp and bone shoes. Because I’m a freeze cat, my black shrug came in handy for the chilly venue.                          All TJ Maxx, except for shoes which were $8 brand new at Goodwill!
Juan in traditional Peruvian dress attire. My sleeveless dress without the shrug.

As a Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Fashionista (I’m actually a Maxxinista), I absolutely adore a chance to dress up and purchased this dress awhile back specifically for this event. Getting to wear it while I sang two songs to inspire giving was a treat…Much as I enjoyed that, it was awesome to be able to admire all of the beautiful women throughout the evening. Such a special occasion spent learning about the needs of the children, filling them through investment of our time, talent and treasures. To celebrate that, the event ended with most of us on the dance floor sweating out our Fundraiser Fashion to fabulous salsa music!

With so many wonderful discount options, are you Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose about maximizing them to minimize your spending –– even for fundraising or special events?

Be savvy & chic,

~Pink Collar Coach

Helping Angels of Peru Innaugural Fundraiser

I’ve lost track of what day of the Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Project it is, but am thrilled to have been well enough to spend it performing at the Helping Angels of Peru Innaugural Fundraiser after being sick for nearly a week. A few months ago, one of my Swan Sisters, Angelin Kiplinger,  founder of the non- profit asked me to sing. I chose Carrie Underwood’s “Change” and Michael Jackson and Friends’ “We are the World” in the hopes of inspiring guests to give. Then in a gorgeous setting – The 21st Century Theater – I had the honor of contributing my voice along with other talented bilingual singers and dancers, including those from The Cincinnati Baila Academy dressed in authentic Peruvian costumes and an amazing ballroom dancing pair. A raffle followed by a fashion show finished the festivities with flair! The generous Peruvian lunch was as amazing as the entertainment and all proceeds go to the children in Camajarca, Peru, the poorest area in Peru where Angelin is from. I’m honored and humbled to have been a part of Helping the Angels of Peru.

As a Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose singer and woman of color, I was mistaken throughout the event for being Spanish speaking – a mistake I quickly corrected by answering in my broken Spanglish! That was funny! And because some of my dearest friends were there — both old and new, the fellowship was sweet. As a woman of faith, hearing Angelin thank God first when she spoke — and the longest applause of the day that followed— touched me deeply.  Such a worthy cause!

I hope you’ll be Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose and check out to learn how you can support with your time, treasure and/or talents – after the Helping Angels of Peru Innaugural Fundraiser. Thank you! 🙏🏽

Be Savvy & Chic,

Pink Collar Coach
