Blogging, Books and Building a Writer’s Website

Blogging, Books and Building a Writer’s Website

It’s Day 17 of Service on Purpose (this replaces the On Purpose Project) and my day consisted of church, teaching Zumba, blogging, books and coaching a new client to build a writer’s website. Though I’ve been blogging consistently for over a year, I still consider myself a novice. Even so, I’m intentional about living out my purpose –– using my strengths to coach, encourage and inspire others –– and am willing to give it a try. Still supporting a fellow writer and Swan Sister to build her writing website definitely felt like a bit of a stretch for me….I’ve done it and so am not an imposter, however, doubts regarding my ability to coach her through the process plaqued me as I prepped. If you’re anything like me you may have experienced how it’s sometimes easier to do something than to show someone else how to do it. Considering my qualms, I felt such gratitude when this morning’s sermon talked about how serving and  helping someone else helps us to grow our capacity. It may even help us to reach the next level. I’m not an expert on any of the above tasks, but I am willing to utilize the experience, knowledge and skill I do have to bless others…In turn, maybe I’ll be blessed with my  blogging, books and building a writer’s website.

In the end, we had a wonderful session. Not without it’s bumps, but those had more to do with the host site not cooperating than me not knowing what I was doing! My client was satisfied with the progress we made and she even sent me a text stating how much she learned and appreciated the information and coaching. And with that, she quieted any niggling doubts that remained.

She also confirmed what the sermon and my spirit say to me. We don’t have to be SMEs –– Subject Matter Experts –– but we do have to be SMEs ––– Someone Making Effort –– to serve others. When we belly up to that, God will level up not only our capacity but our confidence for the next time around. If we’ll be Pink Collar Savvy & Chic and faithful to serve, He’ll cause us to soar. Be that blogging, writing a book, building a writer’s website or whatever acts of service He calls us to.

The Reality of Rosy Expectations

The Reality of Rosy Expectations

It’s Day 11 of being back to blogging, and a driving experience reminded me of the sometimes harsh reality of rosy expectations. Driving home from work, though I was in a bit of a rush to get home so I could change into Zumba attire for tonight’s class and try to get on top of preparation for tomorrow, I noticed a woman in a jeep waiting to turn out of a parking lot. Given the steady stream of traffic, I knew it may be a long time before she’d be able to make a right. Rather than speeding up and blocking her, I tapped the brakes and motioned for her to pull in front of me. The woman looked right at me and took advantage of the opportunity I provided without so much as a wave, let alone a horn honk. Not only that, she actually wore a bit of a frown. Translated audibly, it may have  been a grunt… I admit her response gave me a dose of reality regarding my rosy expectations.

What Can You Expect from a Pig.jpg
Rosy Expectations.

For a moment, I thought, Wow. You’re welcome. Then I realized the truth of the situation: I’d projected how I would have responded onto this woman and expected her to act likewise. Which wasn’t fair…Thankfully I got over myself very quickly, shook my head and just laughed. Now I think it’s humorous that in looking for an image to reflect my blog topic, I found this pretty pink piggy with a flower in her mouth! In no way am I calling the woman a pig; the saying just seemed to fit the scenario. That said, perhaps the woman is one of those entitled people who just take someone giving them a chance to turn when she could have been stuck there quite a while for granted…

Either way, the takeaway for us Pink Collar Savvy & Chic Swans on the home front or in the workplace is what I tell the residents in the women’s shelter where I’m the director. There’s no need to be concerned with the other driver, what she did or didn’t do or the reasons behind her behavior. All that’s necessary is doing and focusing on what we should or shouldn’t do and what motivates us to make those choices. When we do that, it’s easy to feel good about doing the right, considerate thing and putting someone else’s needs before our own to bless them. Whether that’s acknowledged or even recognized. The ultimate motivation? The One who never disappoints. He exceeds the highest standard each and every time and provides the only true reality regarding rosy expectations.

Wishing on Wings

So blessed to be his daughter,

So proud to bear his name.

So thankful for his friendship

And love that never changed.

Been missing him for 18 years,

Longing for an eternity more.

Praying I’ll see my hero’s face

As I walk through heaven’s door.

Days spent wishing –– for that very thing,

Not a single one of them has passed

Without his wind beneath my wings.

I’ll love you forever Daddy,

The King of Heaven Wants Me

The King of Heaven Wants Me

It’s Day 7 of being back to blogging, and as I contemplated what word of encouragement to send to a loved one struggling with their identity, I heard these  lyrics from Tenth Avenue North’s song “Control”:  The King of heaven wants me!

Talk about a word of encouragement! As the song played, I sang with all my heart:

God you don’t need me

But somehow You want me

Oh how You love me

And somehow that frees me

To take my hands off of my life and give You control

The King of Heaven wants me

This world has lost its grip on me.

The King of Heaven Wants Me!

If you’re like my loved one and struggle with your identity in this world, please know you’re the one that the God who has everything loves so fiercely that He desires an intimate relationship with you.  Resting in that knowledge, I hope can relinquish control and feel the world loosen its grip on you. Then you can be truly Pink Collar Savvy & Chic and give the King of Heaven thing He really wants.

Pink Collar Coach’s Positivity Post – Happy New Year & Beginning to Blog Again!

Pink Collar Coach’s Positivity Post – Happy New Year & Beginning to Blog Again!

It’s Day 1 of 2019 and the first day since I started my new role as a Women’s Center Director that I’ve posted. I’m not exactly sure how to manage being a wife, mother, Life Coach, author and blogger, but I’ve missed this –– I’ve missed you –– and am determined to get back to writing regularly. I did it consecutively for over a year after all! Recently, a conversation with a dear friend, Valerie, has inspired me to get incorporate servant leadership and social service into the blog, but I’ve yet to work out the details. And of course I still want to feature style and Shabby Chic decor –– like my tree! Now that I’m renting a tiny house for personal and professional use, there are lots of fresh photos to share. Then there’s faith, the foundation of everything I do. Though I’ve been at it for a bit now, I must confess I still feel like a novice/beginning blogger and am somewhat overwhelmed…

This morning’s devotion, however, entitled Something New, spoke to God’s work in our lives and encouraged me: “I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness, I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.” – Isaiah 43:19 NLT. How exciting is that! I don’t know what 2019 holds, but it’s so good to know Who holds 2019! Can’t wait to see what He does in my family, my career, my writing –– my life! And yours!

Blessings for your best year yet!

A Shabby Chic Christmas! All ornaments, tree skirt, ribbon topper and valance are from the           Simply Shabby Chic line at Target. The ribbon came with a quilt and got repurposed. The white tree –– my fantasy finally realized was $40 from Walmart. Who knew?

Pink Collar Coach’s Positivity Post – October 2, 2018

Though I’m trying to make a go of my business, Pink Collar Savvy & Chic, when a perfect career opportunity presents itself, I go for it. Yesterday I had a second interview for a Women’s Center Director position where I had to present a comprehensive 90-Day plan for residents. At the end of my Power Point, the Chief of Operations let me know he was impressed with how smart I am. As a feminine, petite, small-voiced female, that’s not always people’s  first impression of me. Whether I get the job or not, I feel confident he and my other interviewer heard my message load and clear!
