“If You’ve Got a Pulse, You’ve Got a Purpose” – Kathie Lee Gifford’s Story

“If You’ve Got a Pulse, You’ve Got a Purpose” – Kathie Lee Gifford’s Story

It’s Day 265 of the Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Project, and on my “unniversary” I’m so thankful for the reminder “If you’ve got a pulse, you’ve got a purpose” that I received from hearing Kathie Lee Gifford’s story. Twelve years ago today, on a sunny Sunday morning, God heard my I can’t take this anymore! cry and delivered me from my abusive marriage. While I wouldn’t have chosen the way He did it back then – mostly because of what my children suffered- I soon came to understand the why. It was all part of His perfect plan for my life (Jeremiah 29:11). I’m not going to lie and say it was easy, in fact, it’s still not. But my experience with the Ds – domestic violence, destitution, depression, despair, divorce, domestic court, and other dastardly deeds done- gave me a  purpose. Today, I use my God-given strengths to coach, encourage and inspire women to minimize their personal barriers and to maximize their beauty and best lives through total transformation – all to His glory. And I’ll keep living this purpose as long as I have a pulse.

Besides being blessed with a wonderful, godly husband and best friend following my divorce, I was grafted into his family. My sister-in-law, Sue, is such a gift! Nearly a week ago she shared Kathie Lee Gifford’s “I Am Second” video with me. Because I always look at whatever she’s sent right away, it felt weird not to do so this time. When I finally watched the video this afternoon, the delay no longer felt weird but like a God-thing. I’d been a little out of sorts all day – the unniversary is still hard because it was traumatic – then below put it all back into perspective. Perfect timing!

Kathie Lee is a Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Swan! I’d heard of “I Am Second” but had never watched one of the films. Based on above, and a peek at 1984 figure skating gold medalist Scott Hamilton’s video (Chip and Joanna Gaines’ is there too) I could get lost in the stories of restoration and transformation from athletes, celebrities, politicians, and others with high visibility and influence. Though I don’t fit in that category, I’m still motivated to submit what I refer to as my Ds Story to be included on the site. If you’ve read my posts before, you may be familiar with it. The story chronicles how I hit rock bottom but instead of letting it destroy me, I minimized my barriers and maximized rock bottom as the firm foundation upon which I built not the rest of my life but the best of my life. I’m debating whether to submit a video or the 500 word entry but will keep you posted…literally!

As a Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose domestic violence survivor, I’m so thankful that by the grace of God I’ve been transformed from victim to victor and from domestic violence mess to sustained success. If I can do it, you can too! Whenever I share this and someone’s life (usually a woman’s), is positively impacted, I’m like I’ve fulfilled my purpose. I can die happy now…But since my heart keeps beating, like Kathie Lee Gifford, I’ll keep living my purpose as long as I have a pulse.

As a Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Swan, you have a pulse, so you have a purpose. How are you living it out at home and/or work? Check out http://www.iamsecond.com for inspiration.

Be savvy & chic,

Working on a Book Signing for Seasons of Her Soul!

Working on a Book Signing for Seasons of Her Soul!

It’s Day 240 of the Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Project and I spent some time this evening in one of my favorite places on earth -Barnes and Noble – working on a book signing for Seasons of Her Soul. Some of you readers have asked about this and I’m pleased to let you know it should be a reality soon. I’m also in the process with LifeWay Christian Bookstore, one of the few brick and mortar booksellers still in operation here in the Cincinnati area. Being a debut novelist makes it challenging to break through giant brick and mortar stores like B&N, and even the ones that seem like little mom and pop ventures in comparison. But you know me – I’m all about minimizing barriers and maximizing beauty and women’s best personal and professional lives, so now that I know both of these support local authors, I’m going after it with a sledge hammer and won’t stop working until I’ve scheduled some Seasons of Her Soul book signings!

While there, I picked up one of my favorite sources of inspiration, Artful Blogging, and browsed through some other decorating magazines. Then I made my usual perusal of the Christian fiction section and was delighted to find an author I’ve never read. I’ve always devoured books and consume a healthy diet of authors with different styles as a way to feed my creativity. Trying new ones helps me broaden my horizons and hone my craft. Feeling as satisfied as could be because I was in a bookstore with a copy of Seasons of Her Soul, I couldn’t resist laying it on the coffee table along with these other delectable treats. Twas so sweet to imagine someone discovering it and plopping down in a comfy chair with a latte to savor it and my novel!

As a Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose debut novelist, I’m savoring this sweet season in my journey. I say that not to flaunt it, but to encourage you. While this evening was blissful, the work day was fraught with Ds brought on by one dastardly dude! But I’m determined not to be derailed. I’ve worked too hard to build a life I love, including becoming a published author. No hater or saboteur is going to knock that down. Barnes and Noble isn’t the only thing built of brick and mortar! In fact, I’ll even say I’m stronger and more sturdy because I’m built on the Firm Foundation, the Solid Rock. That will hold me in good stead as I continue working on book signings for Seasons of Her Soul!

What Pink Collar Ds or challenges are you facing that feel as impenetrable as a solid structure? Perhaps it’s that personal situation where you can’t make a breakthrough? Or maybe you feel like you’re hitting a brick wall in your professional life… How can you be Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose to minimize those barriers and to maximize your best life on the home-front and in the workplace?

Dumping The Ds (Pink Collar Challenges)

Dumping The Ds (Pink Collar Challenges)

It’s Day 225 of the Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Project has me feeling like it’s time for me to do a dump of the Ds.  As a life coach who uses a holistic coaching approach to facilitate The Swan Experience: Minimizing barriers; maximizing women’s beauty and best professional lives through total transformation, I specialize in the Ds. Ds are the challenges Pink Collar women face that can negatively impact personal or professional performance. In doing so, I prevent derailing and promote Swans living their best savvy & chic lives on the home front and in the workplace. That being the case, I shouldn’t be surprised that the D behind most challenges – the devil – doesn’t like what I’m trying to do, or me for that matter, and is going to do everything in his power to destroy me at best and discourage me at the least. I felt this intensely today and know it’s time to dump the Ds.

When I was the director of a life coaching program that supported at risk individuals in removing barriers to their sustainable success, one of the most impactful steps on their  journey was “Letting Go of the Past”, better known as “The Dump”. During the process, coachees were given the opportunity to write down the negative things that have happened in their life on a post-it. Next, they were encouraged to share each post-it, then to throw it into the center of the room. At the end of the time, all of the post-its containing the negative events were taken outside and burned, which symbolized letting them go.

This simulated dump serves two purposes: 1) It allows me to put the challenges I’m facing down so I can let them go, 2) It provides you with a list of the challenges I write about and coach around.

Ds

  • Dysfunction
  • Drug and alcohol exposure (and/or abuse)
  • Domestic violence
  • Depression
  • Desperation
  • Deception
  • Destitution
  • Divorce
  • Domestic relations court and issues
  • Disobedient children
  • Delinquent preteens and teens
  • Diagnoses
  • Diet and weight issues
  • Debt
  • Death
  • Derailing
  • Discrimination
  • Disenfranchisement
  • Disasters
  • Disappointment
  • Discouragement
  • Drama

Now that I’ve made this list, I feel a bit better because I’m not dealing with everything on it! It puts things into perspective and frees me to let go of them. Also, a problem shared is half solved, so I appreciate being able to share with you. Hopefully if you or someone in your life is dealing with any of these Ds, I hope you’ll give yourself permission to let them go. I encourage you to talk to someone who is psychologically safe (won’t judge you, minimize your challenges, tell you what to do – just listens actively and openly).

Stressed Woman

As a Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Pink Collar Coach, I admit today I needed a dose of my own medicine while dealing with my Ds. I needed to minimize barriers and to maximize the beauty and best things in my life personally and professionally. Like my husband, home, and debut novel (now there’s an awesome D!). And rather than focusing on the little d, the devil, I need to focus on GOD, my DELIVERER, who brings me out of them all. Dumping my Ds was just what the Good Doctor ordered.

How about you? Are you dealing with some of the challenges listed above? Do you need to be Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose and dump your Ds?
