It’s Day 235 of the Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Project and I’ve spent the rainy day reading; it’s been special and surreal because it’s my book, Seasons of Her Soul. After this morning’s Zumba class with one of my magnificent mentors, Marina, and running errands, I almost made it in the house before the skies opened up – but not quite. With precious cargo on board in the form of the first box containing copies of my debut novel, I left all but the copy I started reading last night in the car. Originally I wanted to have one available for Marina but was pleasantly surprised to learn she’d already downloaded the Kindle version and was 76% through. Happy with that knowledge, I came inside and curled up in one of my favorite places on earth: the left corner of the sofa and have been contentedly lost in the story ever since. Though it really is a little surreal, it’s so special to hold the book I’ve carried in my heart for so long in my hands. And it warms my heart to imagine my mentor perhaps spending this rainy day reading it too.
In fact, it’s been such a blessing hearing from you readers who have purchased the Kindle or print versions. Another ZIN (Zumba Instructor Network) mentor, Jodi, let me know she got the former when her son was home sick from school. How cool is that for a mom to read the book as she tends to her child? Then last night, I received the coolest IM message from someone in my Sunday Zumba with the Pink Collar Coach class, below, stating it was her favorite part thus far. Writers write because we want to share it with the world. For me, knowing those in my little corner of the world are reading and being impacted based on what’s circled here, means my purpose in writing the book is being fulfilled.
As a Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose new author, I hope each of you realizes how much it means to me that you’ve given my writing a chance. By reading this blog and the book. It’s daunting for writers to break into publication as is evidenced by the first speaking invitation I’ve received since the book released. Our local chapter of Altrusa International, a non-profit organization focused on community service and supporting women, has requested I present on my publication journey. You all have played such a big part in it. With every blog post, Facebook or Linked In viewing, share, like and comment. With every Kindle and print book purchase. With each review written. With every request for me to host a book signing (the reason I have a those boxes of books). With every way you’ve shown encouragement and support. I’m so blessed and thankful to have you along on my journey. Especially on a rainy day spent reading.
Seasons of Her Soul has a strong social message about one of the Ds, domestic violence. How are you Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose with what you read? Does the fiction you read have a literary quality about it that elevates your empathy for the experiences of others?
