It’s Day 226 of the Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Project and one of the highlights of my work day was a Money is Emotional lunch meeting with the author of the book, The Financial Lifeguard, Christine Luken. Christine is a certified financial coach and is building her business in a way I want to emulate. She launched the book last year and it has done so well that she just finished the first draft of its sequel, Manage Money Like a Boss, with creatives and entrepreneurs – like me! – as the target audience. This Pink Collar Savvy & Chic author, coach and speaker is maximizing her first book, which is exactly what I hope to do with my debut novel, Seasons of Her Soul. Meeting with The Financial Lifeguard reinforced how female entrepreneurs must balance our desire to serve others with the need to produce sustainable income. Money really is emotional!
Though Christine’s book is non-fiction, and mine is fiction drawn from real life experiences, I hope to be able to use it as a platform to coach and speak around the Ds, like the domestic violence the main character, Lee, faces. And I’ve already started the preliminary writing process of laying out the story’s map – another highlight of my day but completed in the wee hours way before my actual work day began! Christine was excited to hear that as she is currently reading Seasons of Her Soul. It was encouraging to hear how it grabbed her from the very beginning, especially coming from an author with a successful nonfiction book under her belt and who doesn’t read contemporary fiction! I’m hopeful she’ll do a review and I plan to reciprocate by writing one on the signed copy she gifted me with today.
We also discussed collaborating to support each other’s work and to refer our clients. Christine specializes in one of the Ds – debt; and she encounters professional women who could use my holistic Swan Experience to minimize other barriers and to maximize their beauty and best personal and professional lives. Besides, good coaches don’t try to do it all but have a network of referral resources…Our conversation was so packed with helpful insights and inspiration that the time flew by so quickly I forgot to snap our pic!

As a Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose life coach, author, and speaker, it was so refreshing to meet with another one where there were no hidden agendas – and there was definitely no hating. We shared openly and were transparent about ups and downs and how we run our businesses in a way that allows us to make money doing what we love, maintains the dignity of our clients and glorifies the God we both serve. Considering how great the time was and the fact that each of us have some follow up steps, I’ve got a feeling this won’t be the last Money is Emotional, or Manage Life a Boss meeting I’ll have with The Financial Lifeguard.
