It’s Day 230 of the Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Project and my debut novel, Seasons of Her Soul, just released on Amazon today, reminding me how I’ve exchanged pain for praise! When God placed the dream of being a published author deep in my heart when I was a little girl, I couldn’t have imagined the pain life would bring early on. Abuse of every kind, including domestic violence and sexual assault, nearly took me, but mercy said “No!” Instead, God claimed me as His own. Still, knowing little about healthy relationships (except from my dear Aunt “Birdy” and my sweet Daddy, Tommie Lee) and nothing about boundaries, I gravitated toward/attracted toxic people and ended up in situations that were dysfunctional, but oh, so familiar. Caught up in a perpetual cycle of abuse, it took being made a scapegoat and losing almost everything for me to finally break free. Even so, my life story is full of so many painful things – lots of Ds (Pink Collar Challenges like divorce, domestic relations court, depression, etc.). Channeling that pain to tell the story of the main character, Lee (named after my father) has been cathartic. And now that Seasons of Her Soul is published, more than ever I see the purpose in the pain and praise God for it!
As a Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Daddy’s girl (my Heavenly Father’s and my earthly one’s), it’s no small thing that the day the lifelong dream Daddy always encouraged in me came true is the very day he left me far too soon. Though never sick, he had a seizure at age fifty-two and died. He was meticulous about putting appointments on his wall calendar, and usually had at least a few jotted down. For the month of January 2001, there was only one. On the 12th. Thanks to my Heavenly Father, who encouraged and equipped that same dream in me (all that pain…), the day now has a joyful significance. In more ways than one, Seasons of Her Soul being released on Amazon today means I’ve been able to exchange pain for praise!
