“It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like a Savvy & Chic Christmas” Series – Girl’s Room

It’s Day 199 of the Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Project and it’s also the third post in the “It’s Beginning To Look Like A Savvy & Chic Christmas” series, with today’s focus being a girl’s room, my daughter’s in particular.  Hers is probably my favorite room in the house. Until a few years ago, it was pure Shabby Chic, but when she hit her tweens she wanted bohemian elements infused. Shabby Boho is how I’d describe it now. It’s the perfect backdrop for my Savvy & Chic Christmas decorating style, which is inspired by quintessential Shabby Chic and vintage decor. I thoroughly enjoyed cleaning and then decorating this space today and watching it begin to look like a Savvy & Chic Christmas in my girl’s room.

Originally my daughter and son shared a room when I married my hubby and we moved into the house with him and my three stepsons seven years ago. Then three years ago, my middle stepson headed off to college, my “surrogate” son moved into an apartment with my oldest stepson, and my youngest stepson moved to the lower level bedroom. All this change freed up a room so the two youngest could have their own rooms. Once that happened, unlike all of the other rooms which are either communal (i.e. living, dining, kitchen, bathrooms, etc.) or shared spaces (i.e. master bedroom, my son’s room/occassionally older boys’ room too, and children’s bathrooms) where I inherited some furnishings and decor, her room presented a perfectly clean slate (other than a blue and yellow tulip wallpaper border along the baseboard – I never knew such a thing existed!) Eventually I’ll tackle the unfortunate border, but since it’s not visible, the room looks gorgeous decked out for Christmas!

I’ve always been a bit obsessed with pink Santas. Even though he’s carrying a green tree (not my fave) I love it with his gloves. I found the trees with their pastel ornaments and they’re perfect with this Santa. A tree on the nightstand is visible in the Shabby Chic-Inspired mirror.                 Such a sweet look for a girl’s room.
Atop a vintage nightstand I purchased long before she was born sits my daughter’s picture in a Simply Shabby Chic frame. Surrounded by small trees, with a Simply Shabby Chic Kids lamp, house bank, an etched mirrored vase (actually a toothbrush holder with the lid removed), and pale pink roses, this is such a pretty Christmas vignette.
The last of the Christmas trees (Hobby Lobby) on display in this corner of my daughter’s room where a bit of her Shabby Boho spirit is evident. As soon as she expressed an interest in it, I found the Shabby Chic dream catcher on Ebay and snatched it up for a song. The Simply Shabby Chic lamp shade, dress nightlight, and more roses make for a cohesive, collected look, at Christmas and all year.                                                                                                                                      My children are “besties”, so both have pics of the other in their rooms.

As a Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Christmas decorating enthusiast, I hope you’re enjoying this series as much as I am writing it. Whether you’re enamored with Shabby Chic style or not, the point of Savvy & Chic style is to own your personal decorating sense of style, whatever it is. If you love traditional holiday decor, go for it. If ultra modern  is your thing, do it with gusto. Just love what you do and have fun doing it. Make your home and your workspace what you want it to be so that you can celebrate this Christmas season in a setting that is beautiful, comfortable and functional for you and yours or for those popping by your office or cubicle. Perhaps that could mean placing a Pink santa or pastel ornaments in a girl’s room or your office to make it look a lot like Christmas…

Is it beginning to look a lot like a Savvy & Chic Christmas at your house? At work? I’d love to hear from you. And who knows, you could even win a little Christmas present…

Be  savvy & chic,

~Pink Collar Coach
