Pink Collar Power Series Intro

Pink Collar Power Series Intro

Power is on my mind Day 19 of the Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Project.

Positions of Power

In leadership, power is defined as the ability to influence others. There are five types of power and they can be divided into two categories. Formal power includes coercive, reward, and legitimate power. Personal power includes expert and referent power. Some Pink Collar women have formal power because they are in positions of leadership.  Other  Pink Collar women have personal power whether they are in a formal leadership position or not. Though these terms apply primarily in an organizational setting, I say they can also describe the power women have in the home.

Like with the series on the 4 I’s of Transformational Leadership, I’d like to explore the five types of power more in-depthly in the next post and then blog on formal and personal power, including Purpose of Power, Problem with Power, and Potential of Power posts.  Hopefully by then I’ll have figured out how to share so my efforts benefit women who wish to be Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose and use their power not to do harm but good.

In the meantime, a picture of formal and personal power at work…
