Day # 12 of the Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose Project, and though it’s a challenge, I’m writing every day. Tonight it’s late, but it feels great to do something I’ve wanted to accomplish for a long time. Blogging about the things near and dear to my heart in order to live out my purpose of maximizing my unique strengths to coach, encourage and inspire women to live their best personal and professional lives if fulfilling. At this point I don’t have readers, but a goal for this weekend is to research how to change that. For now, I’m content posting and praying the readers will come.
Today’s post is the continuation of the one I started to write last night. As I mentioned, someone recently asked me what a leader was, and I responded with what a transformational leader does. I described the last three I’s but couldn’t recall the first. Now that I’ve remembered them all, rather than describe them all at once, I’ll cover them one at a time.
A transformational leader is one who leads by idealized influence. Simply stated, they are role models for those they lead. Their behavior is such that their follows respect, trust and want to be like their leaders. In that sense, anyone can play a transformational leader role in the lives of others – in the home, the workplace, the community and beyond. It’s my prayer that I live my life in a way that those within my circle of influence notice the way I behave, speak, and treat others and want to emulate it. If that’s not happening, then I need to rethink my interpersonal communication and interactions.
Just writing that causes me to self-reflect and realize I need to be more intentional about the way I conduct myself. I’ll never be perfect, but as much as is possible, I do want my family, friends and everyone in my workplace to feel as if I’m a leader worth following. That being the case, my goal tomorrow is to think before I act or speak and ask myself if I’m modeling behavior I want others to emulate. If the answer is no, I should’t say it or do it.
That’s my commitment to being Pink Collar Savvy & Chic on Purpose tomorrow. What’s your’s?
